Whitney Center for the Arts

On February 19, 2015, Sheridan College officials unveiled final plans for the new $20 million Whitney Center for the Arts at Sheridan College.   A generous $16 million gift from Whitney Benefits covered the construction costs of the Center.

The Sheridan College Foundation has been fundraising to raise the additional $4 million to equip the new Whitney Center for the Arts with needed technologies that will allow Sheridan College to compete regionally and nationally, and for SC students to experience educational opportunities second-to-none.  The campaign funds academic equipment, technology and furnishing for the new Center, which will serve the growing Fine and Performing Arts programs, academic strategic priorities for Sheridan College.

The Whitney Center for the Arts, a  60,000 square-foot, cutting edge space needed to support the thriving student body, was completed in the fall of 2016.  The Center features recital and performance space, including a 422-seat concert hall. It also includes new teaching spaces for ceramics, woodworking, sculpture, 2-D and 3-D art, formal and student gallery space, office studios for art faculty, band and orchestra recital space, choral recital space, a digital music classroom, a recording studio and 6,000 square feet of expansion space for program growth.

“We are fortunate that the leaders in Sheridan County recognize the role that the arts play in our world today,” Young said. “The arts are an integral part of understanding other cultures and traditions, of interpreting the past, and exploring the future.”

“Sheridan is a uniquely wonderful place for the Fine Arts,” said SC art faculty Jason Lanka, originally from Ranchester. “This new facility will give us the ability to have all the state-of-the-art programing that our faculty have the expertise to provide but couldn’t because of our lack of space.”

Please contact Sheridan College Foundation for gifting and Concert Hall seat sponsorship information.

The facility is now fully functional.  Please see www.whitneyarts.org for more information about the Whitney Center for the Arts.
