Representatives from Montana Dakota Utilities and MDU subsidiary Williston Basin Interstate Pipeline Company on Wednesday delivered a gift of technological training equipment to Sheridan College.
The equipment will be housed in Northern Wyoming Community College District’s Industry Training and Education Center Mobile Training Lab, which is currently parked at Sheridan College, and will provide hands-on learning to students at Sheridan College and Gillette College and industry workers throughout the region.
“We’re giving this equipment to the college so students will have the opportunity to learn how to use the equipment to prepare for their career,” Bret Ketcham, Field Manager with Bitter Creek Pipelines, said. “This is great training equipment that will carry them into our industry.”
The equipment, valued at over $18,000, consists of six Allen Bradley SLC 500’s; four Allen Bradley Panelview 550’s; one Allen Bradley Demonstration Kit (1st Generation Frequency Drive) and two Fisher & Porter single and multiple loop controllers.
“We will use these PLC.s, Panelview 550s and Loop controllers in our Industrial Electrical Programs for the Apprentice Electrician Training classes going on right now in Gillette and in future trainings coming up in Sheridan as well,” Ron Varner, I-TEC instructor, said. “The Fisher-Porter loop controllers will be very useful in our Instrumentation sections of these same trainings. The Frequency drives are also an important part of our Electrical programs and will aid in the Hands-On Trainings we offer now. In all, these will be of extreme value to our program and we send our special thanks to our friends at MDU/WBI.”
“We wish to thank MDU with our greatest appreciation for the recent donation of equipment and support of our electrical program,” Randy Calhoon, I-TEC Director, said. “With donations like these will be able to help train future technicians on field appropriate equipment that will benefit students, industry, and our training facility. Partnerships like this benefit all parties to the fullest extent. Once again we very much appreciate this generous donation.”
