On behalf of Ana’s family and friends we thank you for giving to Ana’s scholarship.
This scholarship was established in 2010 to honor the memory of Ana Ivanovna Olson, a loving daughter and sister and a friend to many. Ana’s closest friends, Paige Miller, Kirsty MacMillan and Shelby MacMillan raised most of the seed money for this scholarship to honor their friend and classmate from Tongue River High School, class of 2010. Ana was born in Russia and adopted by her Wyoming family when she was 9 years old. Ana was caring, intelligent, fearless, and steadfast and loved her 4-H animals. She excelled in raising swine and one day hoped to graduate from Sheridan College with both a nursing degree and an agriculture degree so that she could always raise swine commercially. Ana passed away in 2009 during the summer before her senior year at Tongue River High, due to complications from heart surgery. This scholarship will be awarded preferentially to graduates of Tongue River High School with a G.P.A. of 3.0 or above, and majoring in either nursing or agricultural science.
The tournament was held at the Powder Golf Complex on May 14, 2010. This year’s tournament was our biggest and best tournament ever, with 36 total teams and a total of 144 golfers! The atmosphere at the Powder Horn was great, and the weather was as good as it gets, but what made the golf outing so special were all of our supporters including: the golf participates; the organizations that provided contributions to our silent auction; the putting contest sponsor RE/MAX Bighorn Properties (The Bates Team); the awards dinner sponsor Sheridan Lions Club; and all of our many volunteers and college staff. We featured 18 very desirable silent auction baskets, one at each hole during the tournament. Golfers commented on how much they enjoyed being greeted at each hole by a basket filled with wonderful opportunities.
We exceeded last year’s tournament net proceeds to the athletic operation’s budget and we also were able to contribute funds to the Booster Club Endowment Fund. The State of Wyoming will match our contribution dollar-for-dollar to the Sheridan College Booster Club Endowment. The Booster Club Endowment is important to the future operations of the athletic department and students of Sheridan College. The earnings from the Endowment are applied to scholarships, equipment, recruiting and other department needs. Contributions to the golf tournament enhance our efforts to support our Sheridan College Generals!
This event is free and open to the public. The lecture will take place Wed, April 21st at 7PM.

This expo is specially designed to expose students and job seekers to a broad spectrum of career paths, as well as provide them with opportunities to secure internships and employment information. Participants will learn more about their field of interest and new trends of the industry. The Career Expo will showcase the 16 Career Clusters and the many careers and job opportunities that each cluster has to offer. The Career Clusters will help participants enhance the link between the knowledge they acquire in school and the skills they need to pursue their dreams. The B.F. and Rose H. Perkins Foundation presented two gifts to the Sheridan College Foundation: $50,000 for the Nursing Program and $50,000 for the Dental Hygiene Program. On January 8, 2010, George Fletcher and Steve Carroll, board members for Perkins Foundation, presented checks to Susan Bigelow, Executive Director for SCF, and Dr. Jon Connolly, Interim President for NWCCD. The Nursing Program grant will be used to increase the use of simulators and simulation in the program. The gift to the Dental Hygiene Program will fund a portable dental chair and supporting units, purchase needed laptop computers for dental care, and addresses rising costs of supplies and equipment. Both gifts are very welcomed by the program leaders and students.
Simulation provides clinical experiences where learning can take place in a safe controlled environment. In rural communities, given the limitations of available clinical settings, simulation is the direction nursing programs are moving for added clinical rotation experiences. Additionally, local industry representatives have provided feedback that educational programs can help hospitals retain their nursing staff by preparing students better in the education setting with more “real world” experiences, critical thinking skills and the ability to multi-task. Simulation will also help us serve more students in each class. – Nursing Program Director Judith McDowell
Dental hygiene schools across the national are struggling to keep up with the rising costs of supplies and equipment. This has become an even more difficult task because of the rapidly advancing medical and dental technology, times of economic limitations, and reduced resources. The financial support from the Perkins Foundation of Sheridan will be an important part of the success of the Sheridan College Dental Hygiene Program. Through your support we will continue to faithfully serve our population and educate dental hygiene students who will be the workforce of the future for our community and surrounding areas. – Dental Hygiene Program Director Jan Dill
