Alumni gets engaged

Nicole Rumph and Todd Gardner of Sheridan have announced their engagement.

A June 5, 2009 wedding is planned.

The bride is a graduate of Sheridan College (class of 2008) and is employed as a registered nurse at Sheridan Memorial Hospital.

The groom is employed as a safety director for DCM Construction in Sheridan.

Dr. Gordon Ward, SC President 1972-87

May 22, 1926-March 22, 2009. Dr. Gordon Ward, of Mesa, AZ, passed away on Sunday March 22, 2009 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born May 22, 1926 in Edgeley, North Dakota to William and Grace Ward, Gordon was the youngest of 6 children. Gordon graduated as an outstanding scholar from Edgeley High School in 1944. He served the United States in the Navy before attending Northern State College (Bachelors degree), the University of Wyoming (Masters degree in History and a Doctorate in College Administration). He also attended Stanford University with a Coe Fellowship. He was a teacher and coach in Pollack, SD and Fairmont, ND before teaching at Natrona County High School in Casper, WY. He later served as the Assistant to Dr. Aley at Casper College, before becoming the Dean of Instruction at Riverton College in Riverton, WY and then the Academic Dean at the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, NM. From there he went on to become the President of Sheridan College in Sheridan, WY, (1972-1987) where he played a vital role in the development of the community college. After his retirement from Sheridan College, he became the Executive Director of the Sheridan College Foundation where he stayed until he and his wife, Betty, moved to Mesa, AZ to enjoy the sunshine. Gordon is survived by his wife: Betty, of Mesa, his daughter and son-in-law: Kimberly and Kevin, and three grandchildren: Jeremy, Nicholas and Haleigh of Longmont, CO. Marisa (‘95) and husband Ben Graham are the proud parents of Eli Benjamin Graham born June 10, 2008, at St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings.

Shawna McBride (‘98) earned her Ph.D. in neuroscience Dec. 12, 2008 from the University of Wyoming.

Kayleen Master (‘06) has joined the tax department in the Billings offi ce of Eide Bailly LLP, a regional certified public accounting and business advisory fi rm.

2008 Headlines

Courtney Gifford (‘08) was crowned Miss Wyoming 2008, on June 14, 2008. Courtney graduated from Sheridan College this May with an Associate of Science degree. She is interning at SC this summer and plans to attend the University of Wyoming to pursue a degree in communications and public relations.

Hillary Jones (’07) joined Sheridan G&F fish-tech crew on May 19, 2008. She plans on receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in wildlife biology at the University of Montana.

Dr. Ian Hunter (’96) returned home to Sheridan last April to share a medical practice in internal medicine with Dr. Michael Strahan. Dr. Hunter graduated from the University of Washington School of Medicine and finished two years as a resident intern at a hospital in San Diego.

Ryan Wright (‘96) graduated from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C. May 18th with a Juris Doctor degree. Wright is studying in Washington, D.C. for the New York State bar examination.

Richard Martinsen and Geraldine (Larsen) celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married April 5, 1958 in Sheridan. Mr. Martinsen started the art department at Sheridan College and was head of the department from 1952-85, when he retired. The couple have two daughters and six grandchildren.
